“We first heard about Know My Neighbour in December 2015. We had been toying with the idea of inviting the neighbours from our block to pop in for mulled wine and mince pies and after hearing about the scheme decided to go for it. We used the Know My Neighbour Christmas cards to invite everyone in the building to come over for a couple of hours one evening and get to know each other. Well over half the building came and we had a brilliant evening together. Everyone enjoyed putting faces to the mysterious noises / delicious cooking smells that made their way around the building. We had every age group there, children, adults, students and a few retired folk, it was a lovely mix of people and everyone agreed it was a brilliant idea to get together.
It’s lovely now to bump into someone in the corridor, say hello and catch up a bit with their news, it makes our home and Brighton feel all the more friendlier.
We also regularly hang out with our immediate neighbours now, having dinner together and know that we can call on one another in case of an emergency. We definitely see them as friends and not just neighbours!”
